The electronic marking of pets by means of microchips is prescribed for dogs, cats and ferrets in the inner-European traffic with animals and is a quality-sign of a pet with pedegree to guarantee his affiliation to descent documents, exam documents and achievement documents. The same it guarantees the identification to veterinary certificates, X-rays and laboratory findings.

Since July 2008 the microchip marking is prescribed officially in Austria for dogs according to the law concerning the protection of animals.

The marking by means of microchip supports the interests of the protection of animals, because unambiguously marked and registered animals can not be put out irresponsibly. And only unambiguously identifiable animals can be assigned to her owner in the case of loosing.

To track a pet-owner quickly in case of a lost animal is found, the microchip number of the animal must be registered in a database,  accessable at any time.
